Christmas decor ribbon is a festive accent that adds texture and visual interest to any holiday tree. Whether you use wired or non-wired ribbon, the key to success is in the execution of how it’s placed on the tree. This guide includes horizontal and diagonal wrapping techniques, plus tips for using both wide and narrow ribbons to create a beautiful, professional-looking tree.
1. Start at the Top
To create a horizontal wrap, start at the top of the tree and anchor one end of the ribbon by bending an inside branch of an artificial tree or by using a wire ornament hanger on a real tree. Then, slowly wrap the ribbon around the branches, tucking it in as you go. Be sure to step back occasionally to check the spacing and adjust as needed. When you reach the bottom, tuck the end of the ribbon into the branches or secure it with an ornament hook.
2. Spiral Down
When you want to create a more dramatic look, try spiraling the ribbon down the tree in a corkscrew pattern. Be sure to keep the spacing consistent as you move down the tree, and to use a wider ribbon so that the loops have more volume. To add a little more texture to the spiral, gently pull sections of the ribbon out to form loops or billows.
For a festive touch, thread ribbon ties through the wire loops of each ornament to hold them in place. This is an especially great solution if you are using an older, more delicate ribbon that might not be able to stand up to the weight of regular metal ornament hangers.
