Christmas tree farms are a tradition for many families during the holiday season. It’s a chance to get outside with the family, enjoy the outdoors, and find the perfect tree for your home. Many people choose to go with a real Christmas tree instead of an artificial one to enjoy the aroma of pine. But where can you find a tree in the area?
The most popular choice is the Fraser fir. But some farmers also offer Leland cypress trees, White pines, and even the bushy Florida sand pine. Some also sell wreaths and garlands. Some are family-owned while others have been around for decades. Regardless, these businesses are open throughout the holidays to help people find a great tree for their homes.
Mistletoe Meadows has been in business since 1988 and offers a variety of different Christmas trees. The farm has four lots and is open for all of December. Customers can pick out a lush Fraser fir or a pre-cut tree at the lot. The farm also provides a selection of wreaths and garland to decorate the home.
Tony Harris owns a small tree farm nestled in the shadow of longleaf pines and live oaks near Dade City. He used to grow strawberries and hydroponic pumpkins on his land, but now the 67-year-old retiree focuses on Christmas trees. He says imported Frasier firs are a huge hit because of their color and size, but native Florida pines like the sand pine are just as pretty and easier on consumers’ wallets.
