Charlie Brown is an estranged cub who longs to escape his everyday routine of sharing his father’s office with his classmates at school. When a news anchor tells him that there has been a Christmas prank call linking him to a woman, Charlie’s world instantly explodes. He chases after the woman across the country, finally catching her in a mall where she attacks him. While Charlie’s life is in disarray, his best friend, Kimberly (Diane Lane), becomes his only companion. Their reunion in a nearby park prompts a gift from Santa (John Candy), but will it solve all of Charlie’s problems or create new ones? The Griswold Christmas Vacation Movie is a hilarious comedy that features one of the best actors of the 1980’s, Chevy Chase.

One thing that works very well about this film is that it works as a family film. Chevy Chase and Jennifer Aniston have established very strong comic acting skills, and their familial relationship allows them to combine their talents to great effect. When Aniston’s Mom tries to break up the duo’s romance, their disagreements bring back old issues from their past and cause them to go on an emotional odyssey. Things go bad before they even start the movie, and the audience knows that the two will get through it. The Griswold Christmas Vacation Movie is a smart, heartfelt comedy that works to fulfill its title almost immediately.

What makes The Griswold Christmas Vacation Movie stands out from other family ski movies is that it builds up its characters slowly. Chevy Chase and Jennifer Aniston’s characters slowly reveal their secrets to one another so that the viewer can understand where they are coming from. Their interactions also strengthen the bonds between the various characters, and the movie develops very quickly. When the inevitable tragedy strikes, the audience immediately knows that things will be different this time around. While other family ski movies have obvious endings, The Griswold Christmas Vacation Movie goes out of its way to leave you eager for what the sequel has in store.

There is also plenty of back story to be discovered in The Griswold Christmas Vacation Movie, and this makes the movie even more appealing to viewers who didn’t know much about the characters or the plot. Watching old sequences will give audiences a brief insight into the lives of the characters, and how those characters cope with the changing times. This is important for family skiing vacations because the characters must constantly adjust to the environment in which they live. It’s interesting to see how they handle that, and the audience learns a lot about them by the end of the movie.

Another thing that makes The Griswold Christmas Vacation Movie very likable is that it follows the same basic premise that made its predecessor so successful. The Griswold family lives off of a small farm, and they exchange Christmas gifts throughout the winter. They don’t have much money, but they love to spend it on their annual holidays, and they always seem to get lucky and wind up with a wonderful gift.
